I wouldn't use it for advanced studies. Get help in the art of summarizing. It is such an important academic skill.

Hello. Thanks for the video! Here is a question. What if an author has shown when an idea appeared and how it was used throughout history in e.g. three pages and I want to paraphrase only parts that I need (e.g. not including all the periods the author mentions or all the points about these periods). And I want that the paraphrase be e.g. only one paragraph long.
That is a lot of paraphrasing. Usually we insert specific ideas from authors into our text. It is not typical to paraphrase that much information. I would run it by your teacher.

Do we also need to underline the thesis or can we also use ' ..' sign
The thesis does not need any special features like quotes or underlines. Teachers may do it for instructional reasons though.
